ALPHA TWIN - SYMBOLISM REVIEW

Since they announced a comeback earlier this year, Alpha Twin have been rising and rising and have definitely solidified their place among some of the greats of the music scene here in NI.

To end 2022 on a massive high, the three piece are set to release an EP this coming Friday (October 21st) and we are thrilled to be amongst the first to hear it in the flesh.

‘Symbolism’, is the culmination of Alpha Twins hard fought year of blood, sweat and tears. Featuring the two singles “Gaze” and “Live Your Life” alongside three new tracks!

Track One - Gaze

The opening track perfectly sets the tone for the EP, releasing you into the fury that is Alpha Twin! Gaze is an extremely energetic and engaging opener that reflects upon a toxic relationship. Lyrically stunning and musically tasteful - if you’re not nodding your head back and forth with that stinky look in your face, then you’re doing something wrong.

Gaze has been nominated for the NI Music Prize Single of The Year!!

Track Two - The Way I’m Feeling

What Alpha Twin do best is not merely just enticing you with their hard driven guitar riffs and rhythm sections. The three piece dedicate a huge amount of their songwriting to story telling. The Way I’m Feeling kicks off with an extremely catchy opening bass riff supplied by Eoin Bannon, before igniting you with an exceptional pre and chorus backed up with some immense lyricism. Demonstrating that Alpha Twin are more than just a typical rock band!

Track Three - Hypnotised

The perfectly titled third track should be displaying how you’re feeling at this point of listening. Hypnotised is simply vintage Alpha Twin, a hard driven punchy guitar riff, hard hitting distorted vocals backed with some elegant harmonies and a fantastic display of drumming by Andrew Mullan.

Track Four: Blood Like Honey

Another track that came from a past, arguably toxic relationship. Fisher described the lyricism behind this track as a reflection of said toxicity on both ends. Blood Like Honey is the shortest of all 5 tracks on this EP and is my personal favourite. Fishers guitar work on this track is simply outstanding and despite what the song may say, it is in-fact, extremely good for your health!

Track Five - Live Your Life

The second single taken from this EP. Previously reviewed on our.The track concludes an exceptional five track Ep that will stand amongst the best music our country has to offer. Fishers guitar work and Bannon’s bass really carry this track and the middle section displays just how strong the instrumentation is throughout the entire release.

Overall, Symbolism is an extremely promising release that deserves all the attention it is going to receive.  These five tracks demonstrate perfectly that Alpha Twin are not only seriously talented musicians, but expressive and thoughtful songwriters. This is more than a rock record, it symbolises real life issues found in everyday life and each song has its own relatable story behind it. Clearly taking influence from bands like Royal Blood and Queens Of The Stone Age, Alpha Twin have created their own unique style and we can’t wait to watch them dominate the Irish music scene in the coming years.
